I have answered it in the past but its been awhile so I think its time to tackle it again. "I want to put a Flexible Array with Turn Signals on my rear fender. What else do I need?". Before I begin I have to say that if ever there was a load question this is it.
These are the most commonly asked and answered questions when it comes to add a Flexible Array with Turn Signals.

Is this going to be your only source of a motorcycle brake light and turn signals? If so, then you need to add a Dual Element Circuit to the brake light portion for it to function as a running light. All states require that you have a rear running light and in 99.9% of cases your motorcycle brake light illuminates as a running light also.
In the simplest terms, a Dual Element Circuit is a "Y" shaped wire that attaches to the brake light power wire coming out of the Flexible Array Light Bar giving you 2 power wires. One will be for running light and the other brake light. This will allow the brake light portion of the lightbar to illuminate at 1/2 intensity as a running light and then full intensity as a brake light. If you also want the 2 turn signal sections to be running lights you will need a Dual Element Circuit for each side.

Now the most important question. Do I need a Load Equalizer?
Yes, Yes, Yes. In case you were wondering, the answer is yes!! When ever switch to LEDs you always need to add a Load Equalizer. I know that they sound technical but do not worry, they are easy to install as long as you have a test light ( available at any auto parts store for checking wires). If you are adding LEDs turn signals to just the rear (or front) only a Dual Load Equalizer will do the trick. However, if you are planning on installing LEDs for both the rear and front turn signals of your motorcycle you will need one that handles both. Yes, you can put in 2 of the Dual Load Equalizers but there is even an easier way. If you have a Harley Davidson model there is a product called a Smart Equalizer that plugs into the stock wiring harness located under the seat. It doesnt get any easier than Plug-N-Play and the Smart Equalizer just screams EASY!
Now if you have a metric model, there is a product called Metric Signal Stabilizer that does the same this as the Harley version but it's not Plug-N-Play. It still handles the entire bike but it needs to be spliced into the turn signal wires with the included Posi-Tap connectors.

Question #3 is asked quite often as well. I want my Turn Signals to function as brake lights also. How do I wire them in? In a word, you can't...without adding a separate Run- Brake-Turn module. The Flexible Array light bar has only 1 power wire coming out of it for each section. One for the brake, one for the left turn, one for the right turn, and one for the ground. Even if you add Dual Element Circuits to each of the power wires that still isn't enough to get Run, Brake, and Turn functions out of each section. Starting to make sense?? This is where we learn about the Run/Brake/Turn module. A Run/Brake/Turn module is a controller that attaches to your stock running light, brake light, and turn signal wires located under the seat of your motorcycle. This module is specially designed to make your turn signals handle all 3 modes. Once a one of these modules are installed you would then only need to wire the single power wire from each turn signal of the light bar to the stock turn signal wires of your motorcycle. All 3 functions would then work. There are Plug-N-Play modules for many bikes and wire-in styles for just about any application.

Find them all at www.ChromeGlow.com. The Power-Tap wiring harness for H-D models gives you Plug-N-Play capabilities when adding LED or incandescent motorcycle lighting accessories. Unlike other similiar harnesses out there, the Power-Tap gives you the ability to tap into the Ground, Running, and Brake Light wires as well as both Turn Signals.
With OEM color coded wires it makes adding motorcycle lighting accessories such as LED Lighted Floor Board Kits, Flexible Array Light Bars with Turn Signals, or any other lighting accessory you can think of.

Installation couldn't be easier too. Just locate the stock wiring harness located under the seat of your motorcycle. Unplug it. Plug one end into male end of the Power-Tap and the other into the female end. Then connect your motorcycle lighting accessories to the red Posi-Lock connectors for running lights, brake lights, both turn signals, and ground.
The OEM connectors on this harness fit '96-'10 Softails, '97-'11 Dyna's. '97-'11 Touring models, '99-'03 XL's, '10-'11 H-D Trikes, and '11 Road Glide Ultra. It also comes with the 5 Posi-Locks shown in the picture above.
You can find this wiring accessory and many others at www.ChromeGlow.com

Sport Bike Fender Eliminator lights are weak

"I put a fender eliminator kit on my sport bike but the LEDs are weak and I cant get them to blink slower. It is the the kit with 2 tail light under the fender".

We have had a few of these in the shop and our Tech guys keep getting asked about them on the road so I thought I had better let people know what we know. Without being too blunt, many of the Run/Brake/Turn controllers and Load Equalizers that come with some kits are just plain junk. The fender kits are awesome but the electronics just don't last. The componets just cant handle the aggressive riding done by today's Sport Bike enthusiasts.

The solution couldn't be easier. We have a module called the Tri-Star that will fix the problem. It is a solid state module that will replace the Run/Brake/Turn components that came with your fender kit. The Tri-Star is a 2 piece component. One is the Run/Brake/Turn module and the other is the Load Equalizer. When ever switching to LED turns signals the Load Equalizer is require to slow the flash rate back down to a normal speed.
Both components are no bigger than a pager and will easily fit under the seat. Average install time is about 2 hours and you will need a test light or wiring diagram of your bike so you can figure out what color wires are for the brake, running, left, and right turn signals. The Tri-Star comes with very detailed instructions and can be found on the web at www.ChromeGlow.com

Motorcycle Daytime Running Lights

I've had the pleasure of attending quite a few motorcycle rallies this past summer and speaking to a ton of people (riders and non-riders). one thing I can tell you is nothing beats the stories and conversations I hear "on the road" from motorcycle enthusiasts. I always make a point in those conversations to find out the concerns of today's riders and the majority of the time the answer is always the same. "I want to be seen". "I need a product to make me more visible during the daytime". I couldn't agree more!

How's this for a segue? The hottest new LED products this year have definitely been the Motorcycle LED Daytime Running Lights! That's right, I said MOTORCYCLE Daytime Running Lights. All I could do was say to myself " why didn't I think of this earlier".
These things are hitting the market by storm too and not only in one style. They are available in LED clusters, LED light Bars, Flexible Strips, or replacement LED bulbs all with white LED's. They even have them for your H-D fender tips.

LED Light Bars
The most popular seem to be the Knight Riderz LED Light Bars because they can be mounted just about anywhere you have a flat surface. Being only 4.7" long they can be mounted easily on a small surface.

The White Flexible Day Riderz from Radiantz strips are pretty cool too because they can be flexed to take the shape of a curved surface like a front fender or bat wing fairing. The Day Riderz are a bit longer at 7" long but are only 3/8" wide by 3/8" tall making them virtually unnoticeable once mounted.

Passing/Driving Lamps.
Another product that is quickly gaining popularity is the the Sun Spots from Street Magic. These are a 162 white LED cluster designed to replace the bulbs in the 4-1/2" passing lamps found on Harley Davidson and many Yamaha & Kawasaki cruisers.
The White LEDs are molded into scratch resistant clear lens that use 1/10th the power of stock motorcycle passing/driving lamps.

Last but not least is the LED Turn Signal Cluster replacements made for most motorcycles.
These basically have a dual purpose; They will function as a Daytime Running light as well as a turn signal. These 48 LED white clusters are designed to replace your stock turn signal bulb while still using your same housing and clear lens. As you know from previous blogs, you will need a Load Equalizer anytime you switch your motorcycle turn signals over to LED. You can read about what exactly a Load Equalizer is in our March 2008 Blog.
Keep telling me about what is important to you and I will promise to do my best to bring you the latest in motorcycle lighting solutions.
Thanks
Chris

All of these motorcycle LED daytime running lights and many other LED motorcycle products and be found at www.ChromeGlow.com.

Fork Wrap-Around Turn Signals

Just when you think it can't get better it does. One of the hot products this summer has been the LED Flexible Arrays from Radiantz. People have been using them for motorcycle brake lights, turn signals, marker lights, and even wrapping them around their front forks to be used as 360 degree motorcycle turn signals. Now MBW Motorcycle Products has teamed up with Radiantz to produce and all-in-one Fork Wrap-Around LED motorcycle turn signal. This awesome products combines the functionality of the Flexible Array with the unprecedented craftsmanship of a billet housing that will "wow" all your friends.

This is the best way to a cool, custom look for the front of your motorcycle. By removing your stock turn signals and adding the Wrap-Arounds most people won't even notice them when the bike is not running.

Each fork wrap-around contains 30 high quality super bright amber LEDs that are integrated into a super sleek billet CNC aluminum fork wrap, that provides excellent visibility with its wrap-around coverage.
Fork Wrap-Arounds come in many sizes and colors too! I like the Chrome with smoked lenses but the also come in black rings with either smoked or clear lenses. Plus you will be hard pressed to find a fork size they don't fit. They come in 39mm, 41mm, 43mm, 49mm, & 56mm. They fit all the Victory cruiser models as well as H-D V-Rods, Wide-Glide's, and many more.

These LEDs have a 120 degree viewing angle for maximum visibility and come with a lifetime warranty against LED failure. Some dis-assembly of the front forks are required since these Wrap-Around turn signals slide down over your forks. You can read all about them at www.ChromeGlow.com. Ok, ok, I know what your thinking. How can a motorcycle LED trunk light be cool?
Many reasons!

First, it's brighter than hell. It has 3 super bright white LEDs that illuminate even the largest compartments. And I'm not talking cheap LEDs either. These are 100,000 hour LEDs. That's over 11 years of "on" time. This Motorcycle LED Compartment Light will easily light up any motorcycle trunk, Tour Pak, Saddlebags, or any other area that needs extra light.

2nd, it wireless. Yup, wireless! This makes it so easy to install. You don't have to worry about running any wires, splicing into the bikes wiring, or drilling any holes. It takes 3AAA batteries (not included) that easily snap into the back of the unit. Being wireless also makes it portable which comes in very handy for digging through saddlebags, looking for those dropped set of keys in the dark, or finding your way to the door at midnight. It has a simple sliding built-in On/Off switch on one end making it easy to turn on in the dark.

3rd, each kit comes with a cool mounting bracket with fast clip for easy removal. The bracket comes with a unique angled mounting block so the light will shine down into the motorcycle trunk when the lid is open. Because its wireless you can mount it any place within your trunk or lid that best illuminates the area you need lit.
The picture on the left is of my Tour Pak. I mounted it right in the center of the lid and the angled bracket points the light directly into the center of my trunk.

The last thing I like about about this Motorcycle Portable LED Trunk Light is it comes with everything you need to install. They already put the 3M mounting tape on the bracket for you. They include the 3M Promoter Pad for preparing the mounting surface. It also comes with mounting instructions. The 5 year warranty isn't bad either. You can get them at www.ChromeGlow.com or leave a comment if you have any questions.

How to bend a Radiantz LED Flexible Array

"Chris, I bought some of your LED Flexible Arrays to wrap around my front forks as turn signals but I need to know the best way to bend them without breaking them. Please help". JB in New York.
Ok, there it is. The most asked question I get concerning Motorcycle LED Flexible Arrays. "How do I bend these damn things without breaking them"? I'm going to break it down for you step by step and make it as easy as possible to get it right the first time. As many of you already know the Flexible Arrays are anything but flexible right out of the package. Actually they are quite rigid. This is a good thing because you are going to mount it to your motorcycle. They only become flexible once you have warmed them up. As they cool they will maintain the shape you have bent them into.
Remember, Flexible Arrays can only bend in one direction(pictured above). They can not bend in a 'Smiley or Frown" face direction which make them perfect for forks or rear fenders.

So here we go. This is how we do it.
The manufacturer recommends that you evenly warm them up using a Heat Gun or hot Hairdryer.
We found that the best way to evenly warm them up is to set them on a portable room heater for about 20 minutes. This works very well because it heats the Flexible Array all the way through to the LED strip inside the tubing. Plus it frees up both hands to start forming the array in a "U" shape. Using a heat gun can get awkward and makes it hard to evenly warm up the array.

Once the LED Flexible Array is completely warmed it becomes very pliable and easy to work with. Using your forefingers and thumbs SLOWLY start to bend the array working from end to end to get an even "bend".
You may need to re-warm the array as you go along to keep it soft and bendable. As the array cools it will harden and maintain the shape you have bent it into.

Now comes the best trick of all. We use a plumbing PVC end cap to maintain the shape and allow the LED Flexible Array to cool without having to hold in your hands. Choose a PVC end cap with the inside diameter size that is close to your fork size. We like to use 1", 1-1/8", or 1-1/4" end caps.
Place the formed array into the PVC end cap and using your thumbs work the array into the the "U" shape desired. You may need to use a little extra effort near the ends of the array since this area tends to be more rigid than the rest of the strip.

Allow the LED Flexible Array to cool in the PVC end cap for at least an hour to ensure that it completely cools and will hold that shape. We like to leave the LED light strip in the PVC end cap until we are ready to mount it to the forks. This way you don't have to worry about it spreading back open. If you're pressed for time you can always throw it into the refrigerator to speed the cooling process.
As you can see from the pictures this method works very well and you should be a pro at it after doing just one set.

Don't forget about our mounting accessories too. We carry the 3M promoter prep pads that will make the array stick to just about any surface. We also have Chrome Cable Ties, extra tape, or whatever you need to complete your install. All the LED Flexible Arrays can be found at www.ChromeGlow.com.
Please let me know if you found this article helpful. " It came out of nowhere". You will never change the excuses but you can always help improve your odds of being seen. Thats why I just love a product that comes out that is not only functional but adds safety to your motorcycle.
Biketronics knew what they were doing when they came out with their new Wing Tips fairing mount LED turn signals for Harley Davidson Electra Glide and Street Glide models.

Wing Tips are a flexible LED array that mounts at the outer most edge of your fairing that function as a 1/2 intensity running light as well as a full intensity LED turn signal. At 5.7" long with 40 super bright LEDs in each strip there will be no excuses why you won't be seen.
Not only will these Wing Tips help you be more visible from the front and the rear, but because of their 120 degree angle of light you will be seen from the side as well. Bikes or automobiles in your blind spot will easily see that your turn signal is flashing even if they can't see the front or rear of your motorcycle.

Then comes what I consider the best part. They are a Plug-N-Play installation meaning there is no splicing or cutting of any wires to install them. They just plug into your stock wiring harness located inside your fairing. The light itself clips easily between your inner and outer fairing right at the outer most edge of hand grip wind guard. No screws, drilling, or altering the fairing to install them.
They will fit all '99 to present stock HD fairings and are available from www.ChromeGlow.com

3" Handlebar Speaker Systems Rocks!

One thing I noticed after being in the motorcycle industry for the last 10 years is how much junk products there are out there. And this goes for motorcycle sound systems as much as any other product. Junk might not be the best word to use so I will switch to "copycat look-alikes". When the first 2" Bullet Speakers were manufactured by Cycle Sounds (formally know as 2 Wheel Tunes) a few years back the "copycats" were out in full force with 1 year. Let me tell you from experience, nobody, and I mean nobody, builds a better motorcycle speaker system than Cycle Sounds. This past year they have really out done themselves when the introduced the 2.5" and amazing 3" Motorcycle Sound Systems. They will play off any music source that uses a standard 3.5MM earphone jack. This includes iPods, MP3's, Satellite Radios, and more.

The 2.5" speakers pump out 75 watts per channel, can be mounted on top or under the handlebars, and are twice as loud as the original 2" Bullet Speaker System.

The 3" speakers (pictured)crank out an unbelievable 100 watts per channel, have waterproof speakers and amplify, and can hook up to qany music source the uses a standard 3.5MM earphone jack.

This is the real plus when it comes to these motorcycle speaker systems. They are the only motorcycle speakers on the planet that have met the strict ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) compliance standards. This means 1) 500 hrs of salt spray; Our motorcycle speaker systems won't rust or corrode 2) UV Stability; The sun won’t rot the speakers 3) Vibration Proof; Our motorcycle speakers work great in a high vibration environment 4) Water Resistance; Water won’t hurt our amplifier or speakers 5) Thermal Tested; With temperatures ranging from -30° F to 150° F.

If that last paragraph doesn't sell you I dont know what will. But lets forget about the technical mumbo-jumbo for just a second and go back to the basic question I get all the time.

"How do I decide which motorcycle sound system to buy for my bike?" Ok here is they way I break it down.

The 2" Bullet systems are for quite bikes with motors 500cc and smaller. They also work great on scooters and golf carts.

The 2.5" Speaker systems are designed for riders with have stock pipes and use a windshield for highway riding.

And the 3" Sound Systems are for the bikes with aftermarket loud pipes, no windshield, and people who just can't keep ther bike under 65 MPH.

To be totally honest with you, you can't go wrong with the 2.5' or 3" system for just about any motorcycle. I am very excited about this new line because not only are there many different styles to choose from but most of them carry a lifetime warranty against LED failure and that is not something you find everyday. There are countless websites offering LED bulbs that claim to be the best and brightest on the market today. Part of what makes the bulbs "the best" is what kind of warranty they carry. Any company producing an LED replacement bulb that has a lifetime warranty is make a product that will last and when it comes to motorcyclist we all want the best for our bikes.

These new LED bulbs are available in 1156, 1156, 3157, 194, and 1895 styles bases in a traditional straight-on style of new 90 degree right angle style. but also come in variety of features depending on your application.

We are now stocking these bulbs in the Standard Economy variety which is an equivalent to your incandescent bulb. Nice and bright, inexpensive, and last up to 100,000 hours. All these LED replacement bulbs are a direct replacement for your stock bulb. There is no need to change the socket or do anything special to make them fit.

A Hyper Bright that is 5 times brighter than stock. This also happens to be our most popular bulb. This bulb has a 30 degree viewing angle with a Plug-N-Play installation into a standard bulb socket.

We also have a Hyper Bright Wide Angle bulb that is the same brightness as our Hyper Bright bulbs but offers a whopping 100 degree viewing angle. This feature makes them a perfect bulb for motorcycle turn signal application.

Radial Hyper Bright bulbs pack the same punch as our Hyper Bright but adds the extra illumination by having LEDs shining in a 360 degree pattern around the base of the bulb. These are available all in one color or in the featured color with white radial LEDs to illuminate the license plate of a motorcycle.

The coolest new bulbs have to be our Right Angle Hyper Bright bulbs. With the 90 degree right angle technology these bulbs are a perfect fit for the Harley Davidson models with the large flat style turn signals. These turn signals have a bulb socket that comes in from the side not allowing a standard LED replacement bulb to shine thru the lens.

Keep in mind, when switching over to LEDs a Dual Load Equalizer may be needed to slow the turn signal flash rate back to normal. These are very easy to install and can be found at Chrome Glow.com

All these and many more LED replacement bulbs for motorcycle turn signals and brake lights are available at www.ChromeGlow.com

Knight Riderz LED Light Bars

It's all about being seen these days and I have found a real "attention getter" for riders with trunks, tour paks, and saddlebag. Unlike most Motorcycle LED Light Bars these days that are just on or off, these feature a moving light traveling sided to side.
The Knight Riderz LED light bars mimic that classic TV series car from the 80's. The LED light pattern travels sequentially from side to side just like the car on TV.
Check out the video below to see it in action.

The design of these is what really sets them off from other light bars because they are a flush mount with the wires coming directly out the back(middle) of the Knight Riders Light Bar. Plus they come with 40" wire leads and have 3M double-sided mounting tape pre-applied to the back. You just have to drill one small hole to feed the wires through, peal the tape, and stick to the surface.
The come in Red, Amber, and Blue LED versions that are 4.75" or 7.5" long. The also come in colored or smoked lenses. Pretty cool if I do say so myself.
And, if your not into the "scrolling" LEDs they make them in versions that don't move at all.

The way they work:
Can be connected to any 12V DC power source. Simple 3 wire hook-up too. They work as both running lights and brake light.
LEDs will scroll from side to side (just like the Knight Rider car from TV) as the running light. When you apply your brakes the entire light bar will flash on & off 6 or 7 times and go on solid. This is a great attention getter to let drivers behind you know your slowing down and getting ready to stop.
Like I said before, there are models available that don't scroll but still flash 6 or 7 time and then go on steady. There is also a Knight Riderz Light Bar version that just illuminates at 1/2 intensity as a running light and then full intensity as a brake light( no scroll or flash). Makes a perfect 3rd brake light too.
Either way you go you won't be disappointed. They are brighter than hell and carry a lifetime warranty. You can find them at www.ChromeGlow.com.
You have to check out the video!

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v1.nonxt4.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D140f7053e0aa4f7e%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330163858%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D5F2915B956A218113259FF5766256CDC9DE9EBF.305B53B3DE1D5A5EE4E28F3CC5725E2B805DCD53%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D140f7053e0aa4f7e%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DTLW_r3VkY1MePOqSQALSIlOsPJ0&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Color Changing LED Strips

Finally a color changing Flexible LED accent light that you can easily hide. Chameleonz LED Accent Strips & Kits by Radiantz is the answer.
These flexible LED strips are so versatile they can be mounted out of site in just about any application. With hundreds of vendors lining the streets of this little Adirondack town it was a natural draw for motorcyclist not wanting to pay the $10.00 entrance fee at the Expo in Lake George.

The Chrome Glow LED Lighting truck rolled into Warrensburg on Friday May 29th and we were setup for business by the following morning and the riders were already lining up for LEDs. And we weren't the only vendors enjoying all the business. We set up in the QVN Auto Lot along with Dallas Motorcycle Accessories, Bobbies Chrome Accessories, Spruce Mountain Surplus(military Surplus), a Pin Striper, a Leather Vendor, multiple food vendors, and lots of hospitality tents for relaxing.
By mid week all the vendors were keeping very busy and the motorcycles kept coming. Without a parking meter insight everyone not only enjoyed the admission free vendors but absolutely no parking fees anywhere. This town really knows how to embrace a motorcycle rally. Along with the great efforts of Don Bagwell, the Town of Warrensburg adminstrators, and the local businesses I can see this event growing to "major bike rally size" in just a few years. To learn more about Warrensburg Bike Week or if you are interested in being a vendor next year, click here to visit Warrensburgbikeweek.com
By the end of the week all the vendors were in full stride with installation appointments booked for each day. The hot items this year were any LED upgrade to stock brake lights. The most common statement we heard all week was "I want to be more visible when riding". "I need a brighter brake light". Sweet words to my ears!! Our LED Flexible Arrays with turn Signals were a great seller and added not only greatly increased visibilty to motorcycle but also looks great on the bike. Another good seller was our replacement LED Taillights from Kuryakyn and Radiantz. I'd have to say we changed a whole bunch of turn signals over to Street Magic LED clusters as well. All in all, safety seemed to be the main topic on peoples mind when looking for LEDs this year and Chrome Glow delivered with over 500 products on hand and ready for installation. So get your calender and start planning for next year becuase this is definetly a motorcycle rally you are going to want to attend. Whether your just adding more lights or you want to completely replace your stock brake light and turn signals, they have a product for you.

Flexible Arrays are an extremely bright, "sun light visible" LED light strip that comes in both RED and AMBER. Flexible Array's can be used for anything from custom motorcycle turn signals and brake lights, to under the tank lighting.

What makes these so versatile is that not only do they come with red or amber LEDs but they also come in 9 different lengths for just about any application. They also are available with either a red or clear tube to match just about any paint scheme.

Because the are flexible you can use them on just about any surface too. Use them as LED turn signals on the rear fender. Form them around the forks for an awesome custom front turn signal. Add them to saddlebags, license plate frames, or trunks for an extra LED brake light. When it comes to these arrays, the possibilities are just about endless.

They measure only .325" thick by .325" wide making them one of the smallest LED strips with the biggest punch on the market. Because of there 135 degree angle of light they can be seen from just about any angle unlike most LEDs that just shine at a 35 degree angle of light.

They have even gone as far as putting more that one strip in a tube giving you the ability to add an extra brake light with turn signals to any tourpak or truck. These LED strips can be wired into your existing brake light and turn signal to work independently but will appear to be one continuous light bar when the bike is off.

You can check all of these cool new products out at http://www.chromeglow.com/

LED Motorcycle Fender Tips

I just love it when these cool new products come out. It's like Christmas morning for the motorcyclist every spring when the manufacturers introduce their new products. This is the latest one I have found to not only be decorative but also quite functional not to mention SAFE!
They are LED replacement fender tip lights for Harley Davidson models. They come in both Amber and RED and are available from 2 different suppliers.
The first one pictured above is by Radiantz and features 24 super bright SMT LED's in each tip. They are available in both red or amber and couldn't be any easier to install. Just pop off your fender tip lens, pull out the stock bulb, press in the new LED Fender Tip light, and re-install the lens. It's that simple. Now for the best part, everybody is going to ask if it needs a dual load equalizer, a diode, or a resistor of some sort to work? Nope! It just plugs in and works just like the stock bulb.

The 2nd style available is even better than the one above I just spoke about. It is a40 LED fender tip board that uses wide angle 5mm LED's made by Street Magic LEDs. This baby is just plain bright!!!
It works the same as the SMT style mentioned above as far as the installation process but it goes 1 step farther - The red one for the rear can be set up to be used as a running light and extra brake light. Yeah, you read that right. It has standard running light capabilities but also comes with a wiring harness so you can splice it into your brake light to work in conjunction with your stock taillight. Tis one comes with the LED Fender Tip board, brake light wiring harness, and connectors. With this style, you will have to cut the wires going to the taillight, but it all goes back together after the install using the supplied connectors.
If you have already converted your turn signals over to LED's, this is a fairly inexpensive way to "dress up" your fender tip lights as well. Both styles of LED fender tip lights can be found at www.ChromeGlow.com

18" LED Motorcycle Trunk Light Bar

Hi Chris,
I just wanted to let you and your readers know how easy it was to mount the 18" Trunk Mount LED Light Bar to my Yamaha Venture. Rivco knew exactly what they were doing when they produced this baby!. It fits like it was made by Yamaha JUST for my bike.
1st of all, the price was very affordable at $64.99 considering the quality, design, and appearance of the product. And talk about "blending in with the look of bike", this light bar looks like a part that should be on the bike straight out of the factory.
OK, now for the installation. The light bar can be mounted on the top of the trunk if you prefer but after looking it over for about 1/2 hour I realized that if I removed the 2 right angle legs on either end of the LED Light Bar it would fit beneath my trunk perfectly.

Under the trunk there is a mounting bracket that hold the trunk. On either end just inside the helmet locks are rubber stoppers. With pliers pull out the rubber stoppers. Then remove the right angle legs from the 18" LED Trunk Light bar. Then, find the right brackets supplied with your light bar. Attach them to the light bar with the supplied screws. Now mount the light bar to the bottom of the trunk by lining up the right angle brackets on either end of the LED light bar to the holes where you removed the rubber stoppers. Using the hardware - bolt it on. I then took a small amount of black RTV silicone and filled in the gap where the original legs were attached to the light bar.
Now just run the wires into your main wiring harness feeding the taillight. With the supplied connectors, tap into your running light, brake light , and ground wires. I had to call my Yamaha dealer to find out which color wires were which but I suppose you could find out for your self if you have a test light.
Now all you have to do is have someone stand back away from the rear of the bike (approx the distance of a following car) and pivot the light until it shines directly up at that persons eyes. Now using a Phillips head screw driver tighten the 2 end screws to lock the light bar in place.

Hopefully this info will help your readers. What can I do? Joe M. Palmyra, NY

Joe,
I get this question all the time and it's a simple fix. What you need is a Dual Load Equalizer. Motorcycle Turn Signals are load dependent and require the same load draw equally from each side to function properly. If you have ever had a turn signal bulb blow in your car, you have noticed that the blinker light in your dash board stays on steady or flashes very fast when using your turn signal. This is because the "blown" bulb is causing an unequal load on the system and becomes a warning devise to let you know there is a problem.
In the simplest terms, converting your motorcycle turn signal bulbs over to LEDs is "fooling" your electrical system into thinking you have a burned out bulb. LED replacement bulbs draws so few amps that the system "thinks" a bulb is blown. Your flasher, in turn, blinks very fast to warn you. The Load Equalizer will balance the load equally between the turn signals and slow the flash rate back down to its normal speed. Dual Load equalizers are easy to install and can be mounted under your seat or in your headlight housing. Keep in mind, you will need one Load Equalizer for the fron turn signals and one for the rear. To purchase a Dual Load Equalizer visit www.Chrome Glow.com and click on the "Lighting Controls" button.
Thanks for the question Joe.
Chris S.

Start of the season motorcycle tips

With Dayton Bike Week and spring season just ahead, I have comprised a "Motorcycle To Do" list that will help you bring your bike out of winter storage. This is a simple list of checks and tips that could save you lots of time and money this riding season. Do all of the following steps BEFORE starting the bike for the first time.

1) Set aside time a few weeks before the season starts to give your bike a "once over". This way if you do encounter a problem you will have plenty of time to get it fixed before you want to head out on your first ride.

2) Roll your bike into a well lit, clean area to perform the following checks. You may want to use a work light to see in the darker areas.

3) Charge your battery. You may want to consider how old your battery is? If your battery is more than 5 years old and it hasn't been placed on a trickle charger on a regular basis, it should be replaced. Has the bike been sitting in storage for a long period of time? Was the battery kept on a regular charging schedule or was a motorcycle trickle charger used? If there's any doubt about the condition of a battery, check it out and replace it!

4)Change your oil. If you changed it in the fall when you put the bike away, you should be fine. However, if your bike has been in storage for more than 8 months, I recommend that you change the oil again. Check your other fluid levels such as coolant, transmission fluid, and brake fluids.

5) Check your tires for wear and "dry rot". Look for any cracks in the tread or side walls. Properly inflate your tire to the manufacturers recommendations.

6) Remove and clean your spark plugs. Replace if they seem extremely worn or if any part of the ceramic is cracked or damaged. Check your spark plug wires for any signs of drying out.

7)Check all of the lighting on the bike. Both high and low beams of the headlight, running lights, brake lights, and turn signals. It is very common for incandescent bulbs to burn out after sitting for long periods of time in cold weather. A great way to solve this problem is to convert your motorcycle lighting over to LED's. There are a wide variety of LED Turn signal, LED brake lights, and LED replacement bulbs available for just about any bike. Rememeber, LED's can last up to 100,000 hours and many have life time warranties.

8) Check your mirrors. Pivoting mirrors can come loose and can spoil a ride if they are not tightened properly.

9) Check your fuel. Remove and properly discard any fuel that has been sitting( untreated) in your tank for more than 1 year.

Remember, your bike will come OUT of winter storage much easier if you have put it INTO winter storage properly.
Have fun and ride safe.
Chris

Cycle Sounds Speaker Replacement

Chris,
One of the speakers on my 2 Wheel Tunes motorcycle sound system has blown. Is there a trick to getting the old speaker out of the housing? Thanks, Jim

Great question Jim.
To change a speaker in a Cycle Sounds or 2 Wheel Tunes motorcycle sound system just follow these steps:
1) Unscrew the speaker grill just enough to allow a medium sized flat blade screw driver to fit between the speaker grill and the bullet housing.
2) wrap a soft cloth around the end of the screw driver and gently pry between the speaker grill and the housing. Work your way all around the speaker so that the assembly comes out evenly. Continue this procedure until the inner speaker seperates from the bullet housing. The speaker should now be dangling from the wires with the grill still attached.
3) Unscrew the grill from the speaker. Disconnect or cut the speaker wires as close to the defective speaker as possible. Discard bad speaker.
4) Using included hardware, attach the new speaker to the speaker wires inside the bullet housing.
5) Screw the grill back on to the speaker and gently (and evenly) press the new motorcycle speaker back into the bullet housing. You may need to unscrew the speaker grill slightly in order for the new speaker to seat all the way down into the bullet housing.
6) Tighten speaker grill and you are all set.

That's all there is to replacing a Cycle Sounds or 2 Wheel Tunes bullet speaker assembly.
Replacement motorcycle speakers and lots of other motorcycle sound system accessories can be found at http://www.chromeglow.com/

Auto-Dimming Motorcycle Mirrors

New motorcycle accessories come out about every week throughtout the year but rarely does a new product get introduced that really makes a big difference. Enjoy and feel free to comment or send along your success story for us to share with everybody.
Thanks, Chris

I own a 2006 V Star Classic and recently purchased the L.E.D. board tail light conversion kit (#9011-10) from Denise at www.ChromeGlow.com. I find it to be a necessary addition to the bike for several reasons.
First and foremost is that the V Star, like most motorcycles, comes with only one tail light bulb. Should that one and only bulb burn out while riding at night, the rider is in a very unsafe situation. This unit has 32 L.E.D.s on it, which gives redundancy,as well as the fact that it will outlast an incandescent bulb. I also find that this light assembly projects light brighter than the stock 1157 bulb. We all know that visibility is the key - the more lights, the better!
The second factor is that the charging system on the V Star (I can only speak for the 650) is insufficient. This is a fact which is well known and was told to me by the factory regional service representative from Yamaha after the dealers scratched their heads for two months looking for the problem. My bike has the Yamaha auxiliary passing lamps on it and the charging system is insufficient to power everything if you ride in cold weather, as the lamps in combination with the carburetor heaters pull more than the system can generate. This leaves the owner with two choices - upgrade the charging system to one with higher output (Yamaha upgraded mine under warranty), and/or start trimming electrical draw. If you are experiencing this problem and they try to tell you to just not turn the lights on, or that it is normal, don't believe it.
A stock 1157 bulb draws approximately three amps when both filaments are illuminated compared to just milli-amps that L.E.D.s draw, making the conversion a logical choice. However, it is important to understand that not all L.E.D. bulbs will produce the desired results. I have tried several aftermarket bulbs which have the L.E.D.s in a cluster and they do not produce enough light! By design, the diodes project light in a straight beam, so any of the diodes that are not directly facing the lens are useless. While using other bulbs, I have had drivers tell me that they couldn't see my brake light. It's comforting to know that a few still pay attention out there!
The problem has been solved with the #9011-10 L.E.D. Board conversion kit. I now run that along with a Signal Dynamics Quad L.E.D. license plate frame and Back-Off XP tail light modulator. The bike is extremely visible now. If you are considering an L.E.D. light, this is the way to go. If anyone has any questions, feel free to e-mail me at N56289@aol.com.
I found the service at Chrome Glow to be great - friendly along with fast shipping! You won't be disappointed. Order your L.E.D. Board tail light kit for your Star today!
Remember - visibility is the key. See and be seen! Happy riding and be careful out there.

Bob Hanlon
Aston, PA

LED Wheel Lightz

New for 2008. Chrome Glow LED Lighting is proud to carry NEW LED Wheel Lights by Street Magic .

With 10 high powered LED's in each fixture these lights were specifically designed to be used for motorcycle wheel lighting effects.

Each fixture has 5 LED's per side shining out in a "Fan pattern" for optimal brightness and effect. Motorcycle Immobilizer
While searching the world for the newest products in the motorcycling industry, I came across the coolest motorcycle security devise yet. It is a complete motorcycle immobilizer by Be Creative Inc.
They have designed two new micro alarm systems for motorcycles that completely shuts down the electrical current to the starter.
With 2 models to choose from, this is going to be one of the hottest new products for 2008.

The standard one button TX-97 model uses a single button key FOB to arm or disarm the bikes starter. Just get off the bike, push the button on the key FOB, and not even your own mechanic could start your bike. Retail price is $144.95

The TX-24 Bike Immobilizer is a movement activated with a "hands free" remote controlled relay that automatically recieves a signal from the key FOB as you approach the bike, allowing it to start.
No buttons to push. Just walk within 15 feet of the bike and the Key FOB sends a signal to the starter relay allowing the bike to start. It works the same when you park the bike. Just walk 15 feet or more away from the bike and the Key Fob in your pocket will automatically arm the bike( disable the starter). This model motorcycle alarm can be programmed to be used as a push button or automatic movement activated remote. Retail price $199.95

Email me at info@chromeglow.com with any questions
Purchase at www.chromeglow.com

Which LED Accent Kit?

Question:

How do I know which LED Motorcycle Accent Kit will be best for my bike?
Thanks
Terry from Rochester, NY

Great question Terry. I get asked this same question all the time. With all the different LED Light vendors at rallies and all the options on the web, it can be very confusing to know which kit would be best for your bike.

If you follow these 3 simple rules it should help you narrow down your choices.

1) Look for a kit designed for your model or class of bike.
Avoid the "One Size Fits All" kits that don't get specific on which bikes they fit. When I say "Fits your Bike" I mean does it come with enough lights to light up your model? Does the kit come with a diagram showing you where to place the lights?

These are important questions that any light vendor or web site should answer for you. What is the sense in buying a kit that comes with more (or less) lights than you need to properly illuminate your bike. Plus, if the kit doesn't explain where the lights go on your model, you will just be wasting time trying to figure out what to do with the LEDs in your kit.

2) Avoid kits with just one style light.
Not every area of your motorcycle is the same so why put the same light all over it. The idea of "Accent Lighting" is to hide all the lights so that you get a GLOW or accent color of light. When you use a kit with all the same style light it becomes very difficult to mount ( and hide) all the lights to different contouring surfaces. Example - Not every gas tank is the same. Some have lots of room for mounting lights and some only have small surfaces for mounting LED's. You can't put the same strip of LED's on the under side of a Sportsters gas tank that you can put under an Electra Glides. You just don't have the room. So if your kit came with all 12" long strips you would have trouble fitting them on the Sportster.

A good LED Motorcycle Accent kit should be made up of different style lights for different areas of the bike. Flexible Strips, Pods and Spreader, Wheel Lights, Step & Courtesy lights...

3) Look for kits that need NO crimping or soldering.
Kits that require crimping or soldering just don't cut it in today's market place. It is just a cheap, easy way out, plus it goes back to rule#1. Does the kit show you where to put the light? If it does then the lights shouldn't need soldering because they would be designed for a specific location.

Don't get me wrong, trimming wires that are to long is normal, but you shouldn't have to solder or apply heat shrink over every light you mount.

These 3 rules should help you narrow down your choices 10 fold. Another tip for you would be to make sure your kit is "Add-On" capable. Kits using Lever Lock Terminal Connectors are best because they make it very easy to add more lights when you see fit. Everybody knows that accessorizing your bike never ends........

Thanks
Chris S.
Learn more about LED Motorcycle Accent Kits at http://www.chromeglow.com/

Music on a Motorcycle

We have all done it! Probably more than once. Probably in the last week or so.
You are ready for that long Saturday afternoon ride with your buddies. Bike is gassed up and ready to go. You hear the roar of their bikes as they pull into your driveway to pick you up.
You hop on your bike, head out and it HAPPENS! The last song you heard before you left the house starts to play over and over and over in your head. Yeah it would be cool if was your favorite song-but it never is. I remember the time when we left from Rochester to head up to Lake George (about 5 hr ride). The last thing I did when I left the house was to shut off the TV. Big mistake!! The show Gilligan's Island was just starting as I shut off the TV and yup, you guessed it. "Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip...".
With the popularity of the iPod/MP3 we knew we wanted to add a Motorcycle Sound System to our product line. We researched the web all we could find were big cumbersome speakers that mounted to the handlebars and looked like a pair of drums. Then we found the Cycle Sounds/2Wheel Tunes systems. We purchased one over the web, installed it on my wife Denise's bike and knew immediately we had found a winner.
These sound systems come with a pair of 2" water resistant speakers mounted in motorcycle style bullet blinker housings. Talk about blending in with the look of the bike! They also come with a waterproof amplifier and wiring harness. These speakers are the only ones I know of that are being tested for not only water resistances, but also salt spray, UV and thermal testing.
Installation takes about 2 hours and can be done by any "Do it yourself-er". Speakers mount to the handlebars using clamps designed for your handlebar size. Amp mounts to the frame of the bike, iPod/MP3/Satellite Radio mounts to the universal mounting bracket (included with each system) and the wires all run under the tank and seat.
Plus, these systems are compatible with any music source using a 3.5mm earphone jack. That includes iPod's, MP3's, XM & Sirius Satellite Radios...
You can learn more or purchase at www.chromeglow.com
